Why is it important to read in English?

Nowadays, reading is a basic and necessary habit to everyday life. Both children and adults have to read to learn. We need to read to learn about how to do things, to learn new rules, to learn about news and we need to read to learn English too.

Reading is very important if we want to learn English more quickly. It is a very important language learning skill. It helps pupils to learn and improve all parts of English language, such as writing, grammar, spelling and vocabulary.  The more we read, the more information our brain can get about how the language works. So, it is very important that our pupils are in contact with English readings in everyday life.

The best way to improve English vocabulary is reading. While students are reading, they can find the repetition of vocabulary they have already learnt to help them to remember it. This is why in our English, Natural and Social Science classes, our pupils learn new vocabulary which is presented and practiced at the beginning of a new unit. So, they use readings to get information about new vocabulary.

Our recommendation to our pupils is that they try to read in English as much as they can, even if they don’t understand all the words. The more words they understand, the better they will be able to understand and read the information.

Don’t forget our advice! when you find a word you don’t know when reading, write it down and look it up! The next time it will be easier to remember it!
