Pet exam advice

In just two months time, our Year 6 students are going to do the Official Cambridge PET Exam. Here is some advise for ensuring success in these official exams.

Revision is a fundamental tool for achieving success. The review consists in periodically doing exam exercises while putting the strategies for approaching each type of exam question into practice. This practice allows us to consolidate knowledge, and reinforce key concepts.

Let’s quickly review the most important strategies for the students to implement:

• In the speaking test, use the key language to make suggestions, agree, disagree, give reasons and the appropriate vocabulary to describe people and places.

• In the listening test, read the questions and the options before you listen so that you know what information you are listening for.

• In the reading test, underline the sentence(s) in the text that indicate what the correct answer is. Also make sure you understand why the other options are not correct.

• In the writing test, use the correct register (emails are informal, articles are more formal), use linking words and some complex grammar structures (such as passive voice or the use of a relative clause). Also include adjectives to make your writing more interesting and in the article be sure to include examples from your life.
