Here is a story to illustrate this point.
In a natural science class, a young student asked his teacher about metamorphosis and how to reduce the waiting time to see a caterpillar change into a beautiful butterfly. Surprised, the teacher remarked: “Don't you ever dare to do so. Let the process go as it may. Let the caterpillar become a butterfly on its own”.
Against the teacher's warning, when everybody left, the student secretly entered the lab that evening. There, many caterpillars were already in their cocoons, warm enough to wait till the day of their birth. But the young student didn't hesitate; he wanted to help the caterpillar transform into a living winged thing. He took a scalpel and opened one of the cocoons. What he saw was grim: an insect half ant, half worm, with weakened legs and muscles still undeveloped.
One can learn from this story that all efforts bring reward. The “caterpillars” struggle to become a magnificent butterfly makes them strong, even if they had suffered when tearing the cocoons. It's the same with our children: any effort today will make them capable, competent, and determined to carry out any task. And they will be the men and women we expect them to be for society tomorrow.
