Young Readers Day took place on November 09, 2021. It is celebrated each year on the second Tuesday in November and was created to focus attention on the importance of reading.
From school, we read different books each term, not only in Spanish, but also in English. It is definitely a great opportunity because it helps them to improve their vocabulary, communication and writing skills.
Furthermore, reading has a positive effect on developing brains, even on those who are too young to read but are read to since it boosts concentration. Reading at a young age develops creativity, imagination, and empathy. Likewise, it increases knowledge on different topics, as well as a curiosity and desire for more knowledge.
It is said that the thing that helps to make a child a reader is a book. More specifically, finding a book that they really want to read. For that reason, we should not judge a book as soon as a child finds an author that they love, because adults may tend to think that is not suitable or even easy if they choose it.
In conclusion, this day can be a beginning to encourage our children to read more if possible.
