The students in Year 2 in YLE tell us what they want to be when they grow up.  The students were given a few questions to answer to help them to prepare their presentations and they were told they could bring in costumes or props to help them with their explanations.  They went above and beyond what was asked of them and did beautiful presentations for the whole class.

This type of activity provides an opportunity for the children to express themselves in English and to overcome their fear of public speaking.  In today’s society, people need to be comfortable speaking in front of others be it for presentations, job interviews or for jobs like teaching.  At Luyferivas we try to better prepare our students for the future by encouraging this type of activity.  By starting at the young age of 7 or 8, the children will have many opportunities to build their confidence in giving presentations and increase their chances of success in the future.

It was a joy to hear the children speaking of their dreams for the future, the things they like doing and the great variety of jobs they would like to have.  Some students want to be police officers or firefighters.  Others want to be architects or engineers.  Still more are interested in science and would like to become palaeontologists, marine biologists or chemists.  Yet others are more interested in pursuing artistic careers by singing, acting, dancing or painting.  While several want to dedicate their lives to sport and become athletes, football players or basketball players.  And of course, many of the students are interested in helping people (or animals) by becoming teachers, doctors or vets.  It will be interesting to see if these interests persist throughout their lives.
