When the first group of English Puritans aboard the Mayflower arrived to Plymouth, Massachusetts, in the United States of America in 1621, in search of religious freedom and a new beginning, they faced a difficult winter filled with starvation, disease and death. The colony received assistance from the Native Americans, Squanto and his Pauxet tribe, who taught them how to grow their own crops and how to survive in this new environment. Although widely debated, the Pilgrims expressed their gratitude after their first successful harvest with a feast to which the Pauxet tribe was invited.

Nowadays, Thanksgiving is a celebration of the harvest, especially for farmers, and a way to commemorate that historic day. Even though Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Spain, this American tradition gives us a good opportunity to think about the good things in our lives and express gratitude for them.

So, what are you thankful for?
