UNESCO has made 5 October World Teachers’ Day. On this special date, teachers are given apples to praise their knowledge and as a mark of respect.

The apple is a symbol of wisdom in the New Testament and in the 18th century, poor families in Denmark and Sweden that did not have enough money to pay for their children’s education gave teachers baskets full of apples in payment.

Because this type of fruit perishes so quickly, it was decided to give teachers just one apple and teachers were expected to eat the fruit during the morning as it was believed that it would keep them healthy so that they wouldn’t be absent from school.

The tradition of giving an apple to the teacher is still alive today and children have an essential role in this celebration, which is an opportunity for them to return some of the affection that their teachers give them every day!

At Luyfe, the tradition is becoming more and more popular and, year after year, our students are getting used to bringing apples to their teachers as a snack for that singular day. Great for you, kids!!!

HAPPY TEACHER ?S DAY!
