“Can I listen to music while I am doing homework?” How many times have we been asked this question? As a teacher, I have heard that my students listen to music on a daily basis while they are studying or doing homework. Personally speaking, I could not live without music, as it is part of my routine. However, to what extend this is beneficial for our students?
Of course, it entirely depends on the kind of music they listen to. As mentioned in the well-known British newspaper The Independent: “listening to classical music while studying can actually help students score higher in their assessments.” Therefore, it could be said that classical music indeed could benefit our students when doing some exercises in class.
Nevertheless, every student undergoes through a different learning process, so it could be the case that for one learner it is rather beneficial whereas others might find it distracting because they have difficulties in concentrating when having another external stimuli.
