We like to think that when the children play or craft together, they are making memories for life. Any activity, done as a group of classmates, becomes a treasured memory. Decorating for Halloween is especially fun because kids love any and all scary things.
We love items that can be used for a longer length of time during the holidays. This Halloween, Year 2 made paper strip pumpkins as they are undoubtedly one of the symbols of autumn and can decorate any space all season long.

The children started out with a sheet of orange card stock. They drew lines on them, making sure they were the width of their rulers.

Then, every child made sure to draw eyes and a mouth on their sheet of card stock. We encouraged them to be creative and just have fun while designing the pumpkin’s face.

Later on, the children cut the strips of paper from their sheets.

The next step was to punch a hole in the ends of each strip and place 2 butterfly clips in them in order to create the characteristic pumping shape. Halloween and especially autumn wouldn’t be complete without pumpkins!
