Every year in primary at Luyfe our students prepare for the official Cambridge exams and this year is no exception. However, since the results of the Luyfe students have been so good in the past, this year we are going to prepare for higher level exams.

This year, the Year 4s will be doing the Flyers exam which is level A2. The format of the exam is very similar to the Movers exam in that there is a Speaking Test, a Listening Test and a Reading and Writing Test, but there are a few differences. One of the main differences is in the Reading and Writing Test because now the students will need to write a short story based on three pictures for the last part of the test. Our kids use the Write and Improve website by Cambridge to practice writing stories in class and at home and we are very pleased with their progress.

In Year 6, the students will be taking the PET for Schools official exam in June. PET stands for Preliminary English Test and it is a B1 level exam. The official exam is divided into four tests (unlike KET which is divided into three): a Speaking Test, a Listening Test, a Reading Test and a Writing Test. The main differences that the students will encounter at this level is that the writings must be longer and more developed with more specific vocabulary. Also, the Speaking Test is longer and the students must demonstrate their ability to agree, disagree, show preference and describe people and places.

The students have already begun working hard to prepare for these official exams in class and by doing writing practice at home. Our specialised English teachers are working closely with the students to make sure they will be ready and full of confidence when they go to their official exams in June. We know they will make us proud.
