School is back and so are the Luyfe extracurricular clubs. Although September often feels overwhelming with getting back into routines, getting up early, going to classes and remembering good study habits, making time for extracurricular classes is an important part of a child’s education. Not all children excel at academic subjects and signing up for a club can be a great way to give them a sense of achievement and worth. There are many clubs to choose from at Luyferivas and one of those clubs is the English Drama Club (also known as Teatro en Inglés).

The English Drama Club was founded seven years ago and started out with only six students. Since then, it has grown to include 32 students, and for several years now there has been a waiting list. The kids who join the club get a chance to practice speaking and listening to English, but the main goal is to work as a team and put together a show for the end of the school year.

Last June the English Drama Club put on the musical play Shrek. The children worked extremely hard and showed their dedication not only while acting but also in the production of the play.  They helped to create the backdrops and props for the show, they learned their lines, the songs and the choreography. The show was a huge success and we couldn’t be more proud of the children.

It was wonderful to see these young actors transform into the characters from the play, using body language and intonation to become the part. The play was entirely in English and it always is so gratifying to see the children enjoy themselves while interacting and joking around in English. These kids are so talented and determined that it is no surprise that the evening was such a great success.

If you’d like to become a part of the Luyferivas English Drama Club, don’t forget to print out the sign-up sheet and hand it in to the office (secretaría) quickly, before it fills up!
