Frigid temperatures, rain, cloudy skies, snow storms…. it can only mean one thing: WINTER is upon us. In the two year old classrooms we are learning about our external environment and what all it entails. If it’s cold and rainy, should we wear a swimsuit and flip flops or perhaps a coat and rain boots?

Of course, in Spain we see more sunny skies than rain and snow. But alas, it is still winter. The trees are barren and frozen, the plants are limp and colorless and the animals are hibernating in their warm homes. The people in the streets are bundled up and rushing about with rosy cheeks and a pink nose. Best to stay at home with a fuzzy blanket and a big cup of hot chocolate!

Our young masterminds are getting their hands dirty to create a winter tree. First, we painted the sky a nice pale blue. Roll up your sleeves! Next, we’ve twisted up tissue paper and stuck it on the paper to create the form of a tree. It really got their hands going to twist and manipulate that paper! The following step was to make it snowy! The children made little snowflakes with the tips of their fingers. They painted snow all over the tree and the sky. And even accumulated glittery snow all over the ground! The children really enjoyed this hands-on craft, all the while learning what winter is. Bundle up out there, it’s a long ways until spring!!!
