Today, Thursday 26th of November, Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States of America.

This Holiday has been celebrated every fourth Thursday in November for years since 1620. This American tradition started when Pilgrims (a group of English people who came to America seeking religious freedom) gave thanks for the autumn harvest so they could have food for the rest of the year.

Nowadays instead of giving thanks for the autumn harvest, people express gratitude for other different reasons such as having health, having a family and so on.

To celebrate such a special day, families and friends gather and they enjoy a tasty meal that includes turkey (the typical dish for this day) while they spend time together.

Luyfe Rivas School has taken part in this cultural event as a Bilingual School. We have shared a Thanksgiving menu of turkey and other typical festive dishes. Due to the COVID situation, this year we have many reasons to give thanks: thanks that all of us are healthy, that we have wonderful families and most importantly, that we, our friends and teachers, can be together at school, a magical place where pupils and teachers enjoy ourselves and learn from each other. This year we cannot hold hands to say thank you, but we raise our hands as a sign of appreciation and gratitude. What are the reasons you give thanks for?
