Music in Language Learning

One of the most natural ways of learning a language is through music. It's an enjoyable, pressure-free learning tool that takes little to no effort. Listening to music in English helps you to improve your pronunciation and learn new vocabulary. It's much easier to learn new words in a phrase or a chunk of text that gives context to the word. Learning entire phrases also helps us to internalise the structure of a language and the typical word order.

The best way to get children (and adults, actually) to engage in the learning process is to get them interested, to make it feel like it's fun and not a chore. In most art classes at Luyfe, the teachers play a variety of music in English, that throughout the course of the year, the children start to recognise and sing along to. In some YLE classes, the teachers use rhymes and invent songs to help the kids remember prepositions or other grammatical structures. And when they´re a bit older, we use a gap-fill music website so the children can start learning the lyrics to their favourite songs in English.

Try this fantastic website to practise your listening skills. They have music from a huge number of genres, so you'll be sure to find something to your taste.
