Getting Ready for Shrek

The Drama Club, run by Miss Lisa and Miss Kate, are busy getting ready for their summer performance. This year the two groups will come together to put on an adaptation of the popular children’s film Shrek. The children are busy learning their lines and the songs. But in the Luyfe Drama Club the children do much more than this – they are involved in all aspects of production. The children learn first hand what needs to be done to bring a play to life. This includes taking an active role in adapting the script to fit each actor’s needs, providing input on stage direction, working lights and curtains throughout the show. Some of the older students now choreograph all of the dances and teach the younger students the choreography!

And of course we cannot forget our stage design, props and backdrops – the drama club students help in the decision making for what props and backdrops will be needed. Once we all know what we need to make, the kids help to make the props, paint them and paint the backdrops. This is one of the parts of Drama Club that they like best – getting messy with paint! But more than anything, seeing how an empty stage is transformed into a set – it’s magical.

This year the summer production will be on Thursday 30th May at 6pm in the school theatre (salón de actos). We hope to see you there!
